The SMS PTO realizes that teachers are an integral part of the learning process and that showing appreciation of their efforts is of the utmost importance. On a monthly basis, PTO and other parent volunteers place snacks and other goodies in the teacher’s lounge for their enjoyment. Each May, during Teacher Appreciation Week, the teachers are treated to a special luncheon during the school day and are presented a special remembrance from the PTO. Volunteer parents watch the students during the hour so that teachers may enjoy a plated lunch and fellowship. Students also take an active part in this special week by writing thank-you notes, doing random acts of kindness and having an opportunity to bring in their teacher’s favorite snack or dessert.
