Athletics are an important element in the development of our students at Statesville Montessori School. We abide by the philosophy, ” a strong mind and a strong body” quoted by our Athletic director of many years, Miss Nell Shull.
Therefore, we offer the opportunity to participate in team/individual sports at a young age. In cooperation with our Physical Education department, we provide the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students a chance to play intramural basketball in the winter, while our older elementary and middle school students represent SMS in two interscholastic athletic conferences.
JPAC is an athletic conference that consists of private schools and offers soccer, basketball, and girl’s volleyball for 5th and 6th graders. WPAA is an athletic conference for 7th and 8th grade students and offers soccer, cross country, basketball, girl’s volleyball, golf, and tennis.
Students participating in interscholastic sports must obtain a physical exam and submit a completed physical form along with paying a participation fee.
