Sutton was the founder of Statesville Montessori School.\u00a0 In 1973, having a degree in Education from Appalachian State University and her preschool and Montessori credentials, she realized a need in Statesville for a quality preschool, and began working with a few children (including her son) out of her home.\u00a0 Her class grew and in 1979 she officially started the Statesville Montessori School\u2026better known as the Children\u2019s House.<\/p>\n<p>Ten years later, in response to the community\u2019s need for a new approach to education, and to meet her school\u2019s growth, \u201cMiss Judy\u201d purchased and reorganized the Brookwood School.\u00a0 She bravely took on the challenge of adding 1st through 6th grades to her existing\u00a0 program.<\/p>\n<p>In 1996, at the groundbreaking ceremony of the new Middle School, Miss Judy expressed her sentiments.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><em>\u201cEvery student has a right to learn in a safe, caring and challenging environment, unharmed and free of distractions.\u00a0 All our efforts are directed toward this goal.\u00a0 This commitment I make to you students, faculty, parents and friends of Statesville Montessori School.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In 1998, Miss Judy lost a courageous battle with cancer.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Stacey Sutton Crosswhite, having worked with her mom for a number of years, took over as the acting director.\u00a0 Her mom had helped to instill in her a love of children and the desire to provide these children a positive educational experience.\u00a0 Miss Stacey now carries on the dream with her own new vision of the future.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-5303\" style=\"margin: 7px 15px; -webkit-border-radius: 3px; -moz-border-radius: 3px; border-radius: 3px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.statesvillemontessori.com\/school\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/nellshull-300x186.jpg\" alt=\"nellshull\" width=\"300\" height=\"186\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.statesvillemontessori.com\/school\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/nellshull-300x186.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.statesvillemontessori.com\/school\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/nellshull.jpg 358w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>In 1999, Nell Shull, Statesville Montessori School\u2019s Athletic Director, organized the CIM Athletic Conference for the Middle School.\u00a0 This allows the students to have the opportunity to participate in many sports and compete with area schools.<\/p>\n<p>In 2002, the new Administration\/Media Building was completed.\u00a0 An Art building was also added to the campus in 2003.\u00a0 Plans for future construction are still being considered by Miss Stacey to help fulfill Miss Judy\u2019s long range plans and dreams.<\/p>\n<p>Judy felt passionately about the Montessori School and its philosophy.\u00a0 She possessed a unique ability to intuitively know the needs of each individual child and skillfully guide them in their pursuit of learning.\u00a0 Members of our community are fortunate to reap the benefits of Miss Judy\u2019s dream to encourage children to reach their highest potential.\u00a0 Miss Judy created an environment where children could truly experience the \u201cjoy of learning\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Her memory lives on.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/1&#8243;][vc_separator color=&#8221;grey&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/1&#8243;][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;3\/4&#8243;][vc_column_text]\n<h1>Iredell Living Magazine\u00a0&#8212; March 2014<\/h1>\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]&#8221;We&#8217;ve been a part of the Statesville Montessori School family through our four children, the youngest now a sixth grader,&#8221; Sriyani Hatharasinghe told me enthusiastically. \u00a0&#8220;When I dropped my kids off there, I never worried. \u00a0They all have really good study habits that they learned at SMS &#8211; I never had to tell them to do their homework!&#8221;[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<a href=\"https:\/\/www.statesvillemontessori.com\/school\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IredellLivingArticle.pdf\">Read the entire Iredell Living Article&#8230;<\/a>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/4&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;5921&#8243; border_color=&#8221;grey&#8221; img_link_target=&#8221;_self&#8221; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221;][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/1&#8243;][vc_column_text css_animation=&#8221;bottom-to-top&#8221; el_class=&#8221;aboutImage&#8221;]Julia A.
