Spanish lessons begin at the Children\u2019s House with a variety of topics from color to conversation. As students progress, art projects, cooking, & studies of Spanish-speaking countries are incorporated into the curriculum.<\/p>\n
The lower level grades focus on conversational Spanish, animals, food, 50 basic commands, weather terms, numbers through 50, items in the classroom, house, markets and cultural exploration.<\/p>\n
The 4th & 5th Graders begin verb conjugation, telling time, items in the city\/transportation, sports, professions, numbers through 200, conversational Spanish, sentence structure, Hispanic holidays and traditions.<\/p>\n

Intramural sports are sponsored for Kindergarten through Middle School. Older students can participate in conference competition offered in five different sports. Student council is a student governing body that consists primarily of middle school students elected by the whole student body at Statesville Montessori School.\u00a0 The student council executive committee officer positions include president, vice-president, treasurer, secretary, and sixth grade representative.<\/p>\n
The elementary classrooms select a representative from each classroom to report back to the class activities sponsored by the student council and communicate the concerns of their classmates to the executive committee.\u00a0 The purpose of student council is to provide a public speaking opportunity for students as well as develop leadership skills.\u00a0 A staff member oversees the student council as a sponsor to provide guidance and direction to the students.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/1″][vc_column_text css_animation=”right-to-left”]\n
Students experience rhythm, voice instruments, composers and musical notation through our vibrant music program. Special musical productions allow students to share their talents and love of music. Guest artists visit our campus and perform with our students.<\/p>\n
Elementary students will continue to learn to read music and to play recorders, xylophones and other small instruments.<\/p>\n

The National Junior Beta Club is a national organization that recognizes middle school students who obtain academic excellence.\u00a0 Statesville Montessori School has a local chapter sponsored by a staff member acting as its representative to the national office in Spartanburg, South Carolina.<\/p>\n
The criteria to be invited to join this organization is that a middle school student at Statesville Montessori School must achieve an average grade of 93 or above in the core classes offered for two consecutive terms in a school year.\u00a0 Upon induction into this prestigious organization, a student must maintain this level of academic achievement in order to remain a member.
